Quandry

// December 6th, 2010 // Uncategorized

Since joining Care2, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a number of truly nice people. I’ve also concluded, in my mind, that the majority of those active on Care2 fall into three main camps – animal activists, environmental activists, and haters of political moderates and conservatives. Yes haters! This is a generalization, of course. I happen to fully support the first two groups. My quandry is why does one organization, which supports so many fine causes, have such a majority of haters of moderate and conservative leaning folks? Some are downright fanatical and can’t seem to comment on any subject without injecting their politically oriented anger. I’m certainly not referring to those that disagree with the political persuasions of others nor their voicing their opposition. But when some routinely revert to foul language and name calling, I think that they have lost their rationality and sense of decency. I hope that I’m completely wrong in my thinking. “Tell me it aint so Joe”

    Hello Hans :
Bruce , here . I know what you mean . A couple of times , I’ve gone to the profile of some “HATERS ” and often found they have very , little info. or contacts . Which leads me to think they just like to hit and run and aren’t really a big part of CARE2.
I just like what I like on the site and add my two cents , when I can and call the haters out occasionally , when they attack someone , in particular .
Stay cool and thanks for sharing .
    Sincerely ,
    Bruce Eyster

  2. Hans, speaking for myself, I don’t condone hatred toward those who are more conservative than I am. I do however think I understand why so many on the left feel that way. First of all while there are many citizens who consider themselves conservative who are decent people the politicians who call themselves conservative represent the selfish and the greedy and forget about the needy. Secondly, what used to be called conservative in the political world hardly even exists anymore. Most of today’s Republican politicians are not conservative but rather right-wing fascist loonies. The only thing they want to conserve is their own fat pay-checks and the stranglehold they have on the rest of society. If those of us who disagree with their so called conservative political views appear to hate them perhaps it is because they do so much to generate feelings of hatred and that they themselves bring a lot of hatred to the political world. When was the last time you ever heard vote in favor of something that was not beneficial to big business interests but instead beneficial to the average citizen? It is a natural foregone conclusion that writing laws that only benefit the wealthy and corporations will not endear anyone to those who are less fortunate.

  3. A few more things I met to add Hans is that politicians who are Republican have unfair advantages built into a system dominated by two political parties. For one thing, nearly all major newspapers, all of which I believe are owned by wealthy people, virtually always endorse Republican candidates. Secondly, the news tends to be slanted to favor the views of those candidates. Another thing that’s unfair that favors Republicans is election campaign laws. Republicans get a far greater number of large donations from wealthy individuals and corporations. Elections should be publicly funded to put every candidate on an even playing field. The outcome of elections would then not be influenced by which candidate has the most money in his campaign chest. It would be determined rather by which candidate can make the best case for himself and his views in the free marketplace of ideas. Elections would then be fair. It would be a giant step forward to achieving true democracy. Republicans have various ways of creating advantages for themselves at election time which are nauseatingly unethical if not illegal. The party sends people out to Democratic strongholds, mostly Black neighborhoods, to spread all kinds of misinformation. They tell people they are supposed to vote on a different day other than on a election, or that they are supposed to vote at a time later than when the polls are open. I don’t think it should be terribly hard to see why the unfairness built into our system of government and the advantages it gives right wing candidates causes considerable resentment. And that resentment probably does get expressed with what may be perceived as very hateful at times.

I come to Care2 to try to help the holocoust of animals going on worldwide. As a Veterinary Technician, I took an oath to “end animal suffering”. It has little to do with Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Conservative.

In comming here, I often have to sign off sick to my stomache at the list of daily animal abuses.

This is a network geared towards Green Living. I am still amazed that many choose to find their home on a Green Network, while bashing green values all along. I call THAT an agenda.

On top of that, I have to listen to the long string of human abuses and name calling and hatred in a country that I believe DIVERSITY works best.

I am sick of hearing about the Japs, The Arabs, the Mexicans, The Gays and Lesbians,or anything that is not pure white and Christian.

We live on a PLANET, not in a vaccuum. There are people on this network from all over the world- Believe it or not, Sarah Palin is NOT the center of the universe, although she would very much like to be.

I have no use for anyone who thinks picking up a gun to kill things is fun, or the solution to ANYTHING. Sorry, I do not conform to Aldoph Hitlers FINAL SOLUTION about killing people or animals

Sir: We all have our opinions, but when our opinions, and the ways in which we act out those opinions, truly do Harm to people, then those actions naturally receive negative responses. The 1 or 2 percent of us who are the Super-Rich continue to Do Great Harm to the rest of us who are poor, and many of us are starving and dying for lack of financial help. Those who are Able to help, and do Not, are deserving of as much criticism, of all kinds, as we can muster. Get The Message: Help those who Need Help, or we
will definitely help you out of all your ill-gotten filthy riches.

I can identify with your “quandary” (sp.), but also with what Charlie says. The “we have ours, screw everybody else” types are getting way too much power. John Kenneth Galbraith (1908-2006) had it right when he said “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”
